Free Text-to-Speech Application

Balabolka is a Russian word, it can be translated as “chatterer”. Balabolka is also a free text-to-speech program for Windows computer users. Onscreen text can be saved in various audio formats such as MP3, WAV, and WMA, and text can be read from numerous types of documents, such as PDF, RTF, and DOC. Balabolka uses various versions of Microsoft Speech API and enable users to alter rate and pitch and improve voice articulation.

PictureSET

PictureSET by SET-BC is a collection of downloadable visual supports that can be used by students for communication in the classroom. Student can use the sets for expressive communication or they can be used to help students receptively understand classroom directions and routines. Files are in PDF and Boardmaker formats.

TechMatrix- A Tool for AT

The TechMatrix is a tool to find and compare educational and assistive technologies for students with disabilities. It is a product of the National Center for Technology Innovation (NCTI) and the Center for Implementing Technology in Education (CITEd) with support from the US Department of Education-OSEP and the NEC Foundation of America. Searches can be conducted by content area, grade level, disability group, learning support, or accessibility features to find appropriate technologies. Additionally many other resources can be found on the website.
